SPECIES SEEN

From 1/18/2010 to 1/24/2010 ~ on the Anza Trail ~ 53 seen

My apology for the late posting.  My modem died and it took a little time to get a new one.

The sharp drop in the number of species to 53 is most likely attributable to lack of time on the trail due to weather and non-birding commitments.  Though prior years also had lower numbers except for 2008.  Those numbers were 27 in 2009, 61 in 2008, and 38 in 2007.  Also, as the berries begin to dwindle, the variety of birds along Santa Gertrudis Lane seems to dropping.  Other than the birds on this list only 3 additional species were seen along the Lane, namely, Sage Thrasher, Townsend's Solitaire, and Painted Redstart.

Though the raging waters of the flooded Santa Cruz River have receded, a muddy trail with bridges out make for a tough trail to navigate this week.
