SPECIES SEEN

From 1/24/2010 to 1/31/2010 ~ on the Anza Trail ~ 58 seen

After the rains came the mud, and a week of limited birding on the Anza Trail.  Fifty-eight species were found by me.  In prior years the numbers were 0 in 2009 (I was sick), 63 in 2008, and 53 in 2007.  In addition to this list, birds seen by other birders included Rufous-backed Robin (Santa Gertrudis), Eastern Phoebe, Canyon Wren, American Goldfinch, Acorn Woodpecker, Brewers Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, and Turkey Vulture (all seen north of Bridge Rd.).  That would bring the week up to a more respectable 67 species.

Looking only at my lists, the month of January produced 89 species in 2010, 69 in 2009 (remember illness), 85 in 2008, and 81 in 2007.  The totals are very consistent over the past 4 years.
