SPECIES SEEN

From 2/15/2010 to 2/21/2010 ~ in Anza Trail ~ 63 seen

The sections of the trail visited this week were all passable, the rain and mud had subsided.  Sixty-three species were seen or heard this week, that compares with 57 in 2009, 59 in 2008, and 49 in 2007.  The highlights for the week included a Prairie Falcon seen north of Rio Rico Dr., the first I have seen along the trail.  Lawrence's Goldfinches and Mountain Bluebirds continue to feed about an hour north of Rio Rico Dr., and a Cinnamon Teal was on the pond to the south.  An Orange-crowned Warbler was seen south of Bridge Rd., other than yellow-rumps, warblers are late winter rarities along the trail.  On Saturday, another birder reported a probable Golden-crowned Sparrow (immature) along Bridge Rd. just west of where the trail crosses.
