SPECIES SEEN

From 3/1/2010 to 3/7/2010 ~ in Anza Trail ~ 69 seen

The first week of March brought 69 species to this 7 day list, and that compares with 58 in 2009, 73 in 2008, and 62 in 2007.  If you like round numbers, another birder found the Rufous-backed Robin 200 yards north of Santa Gertrudis Lane, bringing the list to 70 for the week.  None of the birds identified in last week's report as possibly arriving put in an appearance, though a Common Black-hawk was seen in Tucson on Thursday and may well have traveled up along the Anza Trail.  For this week the potential early arrivals include Gray Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Barn Swallow, and Lucy's Warbler.  If none of these arrive this week, I may have to take the average first arrival, rather than the earliest day.  Oh well, it's only meant for fun anyway.

Among the noteables seen this past week were Belted Kingfisher (FOS), 3 different vireos, Turkey Vultures every day, and FOS Wilson's Warbler.
