SPECIES SEEN

From 4/5/2010 to 4/11/2010 ~ in Anza Trail ~ 79 seen

The 79 species seen this week is on the high side compared with previous years.  The number seen in 2009 was 69, in 2008 was 75, and in 2007 was 49.  A few additional species were seen by other birders along the trail including Brown-crested Flycatcher, Lazuli Bunting, Warbling Vireo, and Black-bellied Whistling Duck.

The highlights for the week included the first of season Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, and  Western Kingbird.  My list of possible first of season birds for this coming week are Yellow-breasted Chat, Western Wood Pewee, Dusky-capped Flycatcher (already seen), Black-bellied Whistling Duck (already seen by another birder), and Western Tanager.

Sorry that this report is a day late.  I got engrossed in watching my Phila. Phillies play their home opener yesterday, and just plain forgot.
