SPECIES SEEN

From 4/12/2010 to 4/18/2010 ~ in Anza Trail ~ 88 seen

It was a great birding week on the Anza Trail in Santa Cruz County with 88 species discovered.  The numbers in prior years include 93 in 2009, 73 in 2008, and 70 in 2007. Another birder saw a Yellow-breasted Chat just north of Bridge Road.  The chats should be along in numbers shortly.

Some highlights for the week were the pair of Blue-winged Teal seen on the borrow pit, the Black-headed Grosbeak seen near the Presidio in Tubac, the Hooded and Bullock's Orioles seen on the Tuesday morning walk, and the return ofthe Summer Tanagers to many plces along the trail.  Bullock's Orioles seem to be everywhere at the moment.

No first of season birds expected this week, but some birds that should be here, like the MacGilvary's Warbler and the Brown-crested Flycatcher have yet to make an appearance.
