SPECIES SEEN

From 4/19/2010 to 4/25/2010 ~ in Anza Trail ~ 79 seen

It was a good week on the trail with several new arrivals.  The 79 species seen this week compares to 85 in 2009, 73 in 2008, and 66 in 2007.  Still no assurance that the Brown-crested Flycatcher has returned, though we thought we heard it singing on Tuesday, but not sure enough to include it on the list.  They are normally plentiful by this time.

The highlights for the week include a Green Heron, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks,  and White-faced Ibis at Rio Rico ponds, Yellow-breasted Chats heard but not seen on all sections of the trail, Lazuli Buntings just north of Rio Rico Rd, and a lone Black-necked Stilt on a pond at the Tubac Golf Resort (cheated a little for this one).  A single lingering American Robin was seen on Tuesday AM south of Bridge Rd.

No new spsecies expected this week, but several expected earlier have not yet put in an appearance; e.g., Brown-crested Flycatcher (mentioned above), MacGillivary's Warbler, Western Wood-pewee, and Western Tanager.

The Tuesday AM walks will continue through May as long as people keep coming.  We meet at 8:00 AM at the Tubac Deli.
