SPECIES SEEN
From 2/11/2008 to 2/17/2008 ~  67 seen

The highlights for the week include a Merlin seen north of Rio Rico; it was the first for me along the trail this season.

The Lawrence's Goldfinches remain primarily south of Clark's Crossing. Plumbeous and Hutton's Vireos and the Dusky Flycatcher are some evidence that birds are starting to migrate in small numbers. Also, one male Vermilion Flycatcher was seen north of Rio Rico where it was not spotted previously this winter.

A Savannah Sparrow was found about an hour walk north of Rio Rico Rd. along the trail.

Again, the Pied-billed Grebe and the Great Egret (2 individuals) were seen at the Rio Rico ponds, about 1/4 mile east of the trail. The ducks on the pond could not be identified because of the position of the sun at the time I visited.

No evidence this week of raptor migration along the river.
