SPECIES SEEN
From 3/3/2008 to 3/9/2008 ~  74 seen

The biggest news of the week is that 74 species were found on the trail. If memeory serves, 67 was the highest previous week this season (since November).

Though I had many failed attempts to find the rare White-eyed Vireo, it presented itself on Friday right where others had reported it, across from the fence that separates the sewage treatment plant property from the county park at the east end of Tubac.

A first of season Common Black-hawk was seen south of Clark's Crossing on Wednesday. When the wind shifts to a more southerly direction, I am confident the raptor migration along the Santa Cruz will pick up.

A Merlin was located north of Rio Rico.

Though I have had 3 separate sightings of female Lazuli Buntings this winter, a beautiful male sat atop a tree just south of the "borrow pit" on Monday. Last year, we located Lazuli Buntings with some degree of regularity along the trail.

Vermilion Flycatchers seem to be everywhere, and Wilson's Warblers are moving into the area.
