 Santa Cruz River Cleanup on Saturday, June 23, 2007
On June 23, the Border Waste Coordinator conducted the cleanup activity at the Santa Cruz River in Tubac from 7:00 a.m. – noon. Also, for the purposes of this action, the Border Waste Management Coordinator contacted the Santa Cruz County Community Development Director Mary Dahl and Developer Gary Brasher to discuss issues of landownership at the De Anza Trial near to the cleanup event. The Border Waste Management Coordinator also performed a field trip to obtain a set of GPS coordinates for the site. Afterward, ADEQ got permission granted for the RR Morriss Park and later in the week obtained permission from the land developer to access the site at the SCR banks. In the same regard, ADEQ in coordination with the Santa Cruz County Public Works Department had a Roll-off container installed at the Ronald R. Morris Park for the final disposition of the trash. Previous to the event, the BWMC contacted the Tubac-Tumacacori Fire District to inform them of the activity and be aware of any possible emergency. In the pilot cleanup participated 11 persons organized in three groups yielding more than 45 full plastic bags for an estimated of 900 – 1,000 lbs. of trash that were dump in the container.
