PRESS RELEASE

The Southern Utah Chapter of the Old Spanish Trail Association is pleased to announce a National Spanish Trails Symposium

October 11 – 13, 2007 in Cedar City, UT

On the campus of Southern Utah University on October 11-13, 2007, there will be presentations from over 16 trail scholars on a wide range of topics, including Spanish Missions in the Utah territory, Navigation on the Spanish Trails, Interpreting the Dominguez-Escalante Inscriptions of Lake Powell, Dominguez-Escalante Trek in focus, Southern Utah Petroglyphs and Trail Inscriptions, Trails as Bridges to Native American Culture, and others. Admission of $80 per person at the door includes the published technical abstracts from the symposium. Additionally there is a Thursday evening Chuck Wagon dinner ($10, a Friday night banquet ($25) and Saturday Trail excursions ($10). The dates chosen for this symposium are auspicious because it is Columbus Day and coincidentally the day the lots were cast on the Dominguez-Escalante expedition. The Dominguez-Escalante trail and the Old Spanish Trail cross near Enoch, UT. Enoch has made this their national civil holiday, and they will have a Catholic processional, a fair and rides for the kids, ethnic booths, and field trips to Native American spiritual places.
